Templates Save Time

My favorite time-saving cheat for the office is downloadable templates.  I want all my documents to look polished but formatting is time consuming.  It’s much faster to customize a template.

Microsoft has a great library of free downloads that you can search by program and document type.  Be creative with your searching because it’s easy to repurpose someone else’s expense report because it looks perfect for your office contact sheet.

Do you have a favorite template site?

Facebook Pages Update

Facebook is rolling out an update to their pages, taking away tabs and adding the ability to comment as your business.  If you run a page for your own company or manage them for clients it’s a good idea to bone up on the new features.

Mashable, my favorite blog for tech news, provides a slideshow review of new features or go straight to the source and download the updated Facebook Pages Guide.

The Junk File

You start a new job, get a few hours training from your predecessor (if you’re lucky) and then it’s time to deliver.  It’s hard to know what papers are important.  Some are clearly destined for the ever-present beige filing cabinet but others can probably be thrown away.  Probably.

Time to start a “junk file.”  File anything you’re thinking of throwing away here.  You’ll be ready when someone just has to see the comments on a two week old draft.

You don’t have to keep things forever.  When the file gets too full, recycle the oldest papers.  The junk file does for desk clutter what archiving does for your email.
